New GT3 R roars in to action
Porsche has released the first pictures and details of its new 911 GT3 R race car, the successor to the GT3 Cup S, which will compete in the FIA GT3 category.Powered by a 480bhp 4.0-litre flat six the GT racers is equipped with a six-speed sequential dog gearbox and weighs just 1200 kg. Other technical features include anti-lock brakes, traction control and an e-gas throttle system that automatically blips the throttle on downshifts.
The 2010 GT3 R is based on the GT3 Cup that was unveiled in September, itself based on the wide body of the GT3 RS road car, but also features wider front and rear arches to accommodate the racer’s wider tracks.
The new 911 GT3 R will make its debut at the Autosport International Show at the NEC on 14 January 2010, with the first customer car being delivered in Spring. Each car will cost Euro 279,000 plus local taxes.
