Ruf heads down electric avenue

rufGerman Porsche turner Ruf Automobile is continuing its electric car program with the introduction of the Stormster, the very first electrically-powered Porsche Cayenne.
It is powered by a 270kW Siemens electric motor, the equivalent of a 367hp petrol engine, and this motor is a further development of the unit first fitted to Ruf’s original electric car, the 911-based Greenster. Weighing 2,670kg the Stormster still manages to put in an impressive performance, reaching 62mph from a standstill in ten seconds and capable of a 150km/h (93mph) flat out. On a full charge the Stormster has a 200km range.

The batteries storing the energy generated by the motor are of the lithium ion kind, supplied by Li-Tec Battery GmbH, who is the first manufacturer of lithium ion battery cells in Europe, and are designed specifically for the automobile industry using a ceramic storage technology.

Further green credentials include specially developed winter tyres by Hankook, measuring 295/30ZR22 which are fitted to Ruf’s classic five-spoke alloy wheel.

While still a prototype, the Stormster made its public debut at the European Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen last month.
