Under the skin

Despite its size and ability to accommodate four adults in supreme comfort the Panamera has been injected with a double dose of Porsche DNA. The suspension subframe and components are works of art - the rear subframe in particular being a single aluminium hollow pressing weighing just 20 kilos, 15 kilos less than a steel equivalent. Not only does technology such as this reduce unsprung masses which ultimately improve a car's dynamics, but in the Panamera's case this weight loss programme also improves the ride comfort of the car, too.

PASM is fitted across the range but new to the Panamera is an air-ride suspension option. This consists of an air spring that can modulate the spring stiffness depending on the suspension mode selected by the driver (Comfort, Normal or Sport). In Sport mode, for example, the spring's air chamber is reduced by 50 per cent to increase stiffness and reduce body roll. For the ultimate chassis performance you can specify PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control) active anti-roll bars.

Six-piston calipers and steel brakes are fitted as standard across the range, with PCCB available as an option. With the further reduction in unsprung weight these stoppers contribute to, the ride quality is said to be improved further still.
