2007 Porsche Boxster 2.7

911 GT2 Is it any good?
Ignore the cynics; the cheapest model in Porsche’s line-up is one of its best. Telepathic steering, terrific chassis and a superb blend of performance and affordability make for a massively appealing package. Even in its least powerful guise, Porsche's Boxster supplies a full-on sportscar experience. Jump in expecting gut-wrenching acceleration and you’ll be disappointed; find a decent set of corners, however, and it becomes clear why this car has earned the reputation it has. It has the ability to flatter even the most ham-fisted of drivers and the handling talents to keep the enthusiast entertained both on road and track. Six-speed box needs frequent stirring to keep engine on the boil, lacking some low down punch, but stretch it past 5000rpm and there’s decent acceleration on tap. Will return an easy 30plus on a run and won’t cost you a fortune to run either.

How does it stack up to a 911?
Considering it’s half the price of its bigger brother, the Carrera, Porsche’s Boxster is right up there in terms of fun. Unlike the 911, the Boxster is a car you can jump in, drive the arse off and come out wearing a smile from ear to ear. The 911, on the other hand, takes time to learn to get the best from it. Ultimately, the Boxster can’t replicate the 911’s bespoke feel or match it in terms of performance but in ‘S’ spec it’ll give the 911 a run for its money.

Would we buy one?
