Current Issue Of GT Porsche Magazine

issue 100Issue 100
March 2010

We’ve reached a milestone this month as the magazine celebrates its 100th issue, so we have taken the opportunity to look back at a few of our favourite moments from the last eight and a bit years of Porsche brilliance. We’ve also asked the magazine’s contributors, past and present, for their favourite moments, too.

Along with the celebrations we’ve driven a pair of modified Carrera GTs – for when 612bhp just isn’t enough – and experienced 9ff’s eyeball popping 1000bhp 911 TR1000. The horsepower addiction continues with a triple test of Porsche’s latest Turbo charged models: 911, Cayenne and Panamera.

This month also sees us pit the Cayman S against the 911 Carrera in a bid to try and answer that perennial question as too which of Porsche’s sports cars is the best. And should you need to brush up on your 911 chronology you’ll find our timeline of the most famous sports car every made invaluable.

In this landmark issue we’ve revisited the moment that saw Porsche begin its journey to become the most profitable car company in the world, when it announced the death of the 928 and 968 coupé’s and the arrival of the Boxster roadster and the water-cooled 996 Series 911. We’ve also a drive in a 356 that has had just two owners, the current one for over 40 years, and a buying guide to the brilliant 944 Turbo.

Plus, we have all the usual news, views, comment and opinion all wrapped up in your favourite Porsche magazine.

Life begins at 40
Porsche’s 356’s reputation grows stronger by the day, and this 1959A example is a credit to its owner.

The emperor’s new clothes
It’s not a criticism we’ve ever known to be levelled at Porsche’s 612hp hyper car, but believe it or not, there is a market for those left wanting by the Carrera GT’s performance. We examine two of the options as Gemballa’s Mirage GT and 9ff’s GT-T900 go head-to-head.

The dark destroyer
Just how fast is a 1000hp 911 Turbo? We head on to the autobahn with
9ff’s TR 1000 to find out.

911 Carrera v Cayman S
Is a 911 really better than its mid-engined sibling? Jethro Bovingdon attempts to settle the score once and for all by putting both cars through their paces on road and track.

New power generation
If you want a 500hp Porsche from the current crop, it’s a three-horse race. Chris Knapman takes to the road in a 1500hp Stuttgart convoy to see how these three brutes stack up.

GT Purely Porsche: Issue 100
Along with the past 100 issues come many great memories. We asked
GT Purely Porsche’s contributors to reflect on their favourite moments from the past nine years.

Picture Perfect
Without its stunning photography, GT Purely Porsche wouldn’t have established the reputation it has. We showcase the talent from our lensman with some of our favourite images from the past 100 issues.

You’ve come a long way, baby
Struggling to identify a pre-’73 from a 964? Don’t fret; our air-cooled spotters guide will get you up to speed with the evolution of Porsche’s centennial model.

The end of an era: 928 and 968
After several unsuccessful attempts to break the mould, Porsche turned its attention back to the 911. Neither Ernst Führmann nor Peter Shutz could do the job, and here’s why…

A new dawn: 996 and boxster
From rags to riches: Porsche’s mid-engined roadster and the first water-cooled 911 represented the birth of a new era based on prosperity and good fortune.

Buying guide: 944 turbo
One of the finest front-engined Porsches ever built can now be yours for under £5000. Our guide will show you how to get your hands on the fabulous 944 Turbo.
